Now that 2020 has made its undignified exit, it’s time to move onto planning for the coming year.
While last year was full of ups and down, there were some good takeaways from it.
I’ve made a lot of progress with my writing style; my fitness is by fair better and life is good.
However, there were some things that need some improvement. So, I’ve put together some new goals and targets for 2021. These new goals and targets are more specific and actionable. Below are my new goals for 2021:
Scheduling of my writing will be critical to building on my growth that was achieved towards the end of 2020. So, I’ve scheduled blog writing for every 3 days over the course of the year. There is some flexibility and movement here, mainly to coincide with important dates (Australia Day being the first of these). This will ensure that I write frequently enough to keep momentum and give my readers opportunity to keep up.
Last year I set myself a 500-word count target for each blog. While this was enough when writing every day, it won’t be enough with the new schedule. So, after much deliberation, this year’s count target will be 700 words. It’s a big enough jump to ensure that I push my writing while not overwhelming the readers.
Mailing List & Weekly Digest
Another key change this year will be the addition of a mailing list to my site. Readers will be able to subscribe to my mailing list and receive a Weekly Digest each Sunday morning. That’s right, you’ll be able to get a weekly compilation of my nonsense straight to your inbox, fresh for a Sunday morning read!
Beards & Bulldust Podcast
Coming in the first quarter of 2021, the Beards and Bulldust Podcast will be hitting the airways (do they even call it that anymore?!?). This podcast will bring back the subtle art of talking shit and imparting pearls of wisdom onto the future generations. I plan to have a variety of guests on my podcast, there will some onsite Pub Talk and a continuation of my usual randomness.
In conjunction with all the things listed above, my site will continue to expand with more useful (and not so useful) information. Some of this has already started, but there is more planned and will be released throughout the year, so keep a look out for it.
Health and Fitness
This is something that I really want to build on from last year. I’m leaner than I have been for years, so the push will be on to improve on where I am now. In order to do this, I’ll be putting the following in place:
Intermittent Fasting: For the first half of 2021 I’ll be doing Intermittent Fasting one day a week, initially it will be each Wednesday, but may change depending on schedules. From the 1st of June 2021, that will move to two days per week.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Starting in February, I’ll be doing BJJ 2 to 3 times per week. I planned on doing it last year, but the finances weren’t there to be able to do it. This isn’t the case this year, so it will be happening.
Exercise: I will be upping my workout game this year. Be it strength or endurance, the aim is to be able to do twice as much as I can now, what I call the “Double Standard”. There won’t be a focus on any one thing, its more about overall improvement, taking what I do now and doubling it.
The name of the game
This year is all about improvement in all areas of my life. The opportunity is now, so it’s time to leap.
This blog entry is my accountability piece, for the whole world to see and for me to own.
Our success as individuals is dependant on having clearly defined goals, achievable targets that stretch us and deadlines that are uncomfortable.
We grow better though discomfort than we do by taking it easy.
So, I encourage you to do the same. Write down each of your goals and define them. Set targets and dates. It doesn’t matter if it will take you all year to achieve them, as long as you call those things out.
Make sure you have some goals that are short and medium term, that way there is some progress. If all your goals are long term or full year, you will struggle with keeping momentum.

The important thing here is to make it know to more than just you, that way you have a little bit of added pressure of someone else knowing what you should be doing and, hopefully, keeping you accountable.
Now, go and get after it. You won’t have a better opportunity to crush your goals than you will this year!
